Lost your vehicle title? It happens more often than you might think — and it doesn’t have to stop your donation. Here are your options:

Option 1 — We Handle It For You

Easiest Let Donate a Car 2 Charity Get the Duplicate Title

In many states, we can apply for a duplicate title on your behalf. Our tow driver will bring the necessary Power of Attorney paperwork at pickup — you sign it, and we take care of the rest, including any title fees. Just let us know when you call or submit your form that you don’t have the title.

Option 2 — Apply Yourself Through Your State DMV

As the registered owner, you can apply for a duplicate title directly through your state’s Department of Motor Vehicles. You’ll typically need to complete a duplicate title application form, show valid ID, and pay a small fee (usually $5–$20 depending on your state). Visit your state’s page for specific instructions:

Key requirement: The vehicle must be lien-free (no outstanding loan balance) before we can process the donation. If you have a paid-off loan but no lien release letter, contact your lender — they can usually provide one quickly.

What If the Owner Is Deceased?

If the vehicle belonged to a deceased family member, the process varies by state but is usually manageable. You’ll typically need a copy of the death certificate and, depending on the estate size, either an affidavit of heirship or probate documents. Call us and we’ll guide you through it for your specific state.
