Oklahoma Title Processing Information

I'VE GOT THE TITLE IN FRONT OF ME, NOW WHERE DO I SIGN?

You will release ownership of your vehicle by signing on line 1 of the Oklahoma Certificate Of Title, to the left in the middle of the title. If there is a lien on the vehicle, you will need a lien release.

Attached to the top of your Oklahoma title should be a "Oklahoma Certificate of Title Tear-Off Notice of Transfer Tab" form which you can tear off, complete with the name of the organization or individual you are giving the car to, sign, and mail to the address indicated.  This form supplies the motor vehicle department with information about the next owner of the vehicle in the gap of time between when your car leaves your possession and the actual filing of ownership documents by the next owner. It's a good idea to keep a copy of both the signed title and this form for your records.

I'm the registered owner but I can't find my title:

Duplicate Title: The registered owner can apply for a duplicate title if the original been lost, stolen, mutilated, destroyed, counters or has become illegible. The Application for Duplicate Certificate of Title for Vehicle/Boat/Motor (Form 701-7) can be found here. This form can be mailed to the address indicated or you can put it through a tag agency.

Abandonment Procedure: Generally speaking the abandonment process in Oklahoma is extremely restrictive and should be used as a last resort. The abandonment is a Title 42. The vehicle must be “abandoned”for 30 days, must have a DMV printout from the state where it is registered, and that printout must include all of the vehicle information, owner information, vehicle tag information and any lien information on the vehicle. In essenceit must be extremely complete. This must be sent to us accompanied by a letter from the Provider (on company letterhead) asking us to sell the vehicle through this process. Even then, approval from the State is not certain. Their application of this procedure is very limited.

If you want to donate your vehicle, but you don't have the title and you don't want to get it, we can take care of the title process for you. You will just need to fill out a power of attorney along with the cover sheet and instructions and a lien release if applicable.

The owner of the vehicle is deceased:

In the event of death of either party, the interest of the deceased party must be handled by probate action, or by completing a Non-probate Affidavit.

If one of the owners is deceased, you will need to provide a copy of the executor papers and a copy of the death certificate. The executor of the estate may then sign off as the seller as long as these documents are included.

The vehicle was abandoned on my property:
