Release ownership by signing on the third line on the back of the title. If the vehicle is, or was financed, the lienholder’s name appears in the legal owner section the lienholder must sign in the release of liens section. The printed name of the owner must be written on line 3 next to the signature where indicated. 

The most important piece of information when transferring the liability of a vehicle is the title, but it's wise to  have the buyer sign the bill of sales form that you can hold on to in case of an accident that could potentially be used against you if you are still liable. This form will help protect you from liability claims between the time the title is signed and the time the new owner transfers the ownership.  

I'm the registered owner but I can't find my title:

If you are the registered owner of the vehicle and your title has been lost, stolen, mutilated or destroyed you can apply for a duplicate title by filling out the Affidavit of Loss of Certificate of Title and Application for Duplicate Title. The duplicate title fee for Motor Vehicles is $31.00. If there is an active lien on the vehicle you will need to send a lien release along with the duplicate title application. 

If the vehicle is more than 15 model years and you are not able to obtain a negotiable title or the paperwork for a duplicate title, the vehicle can be sold with a Bill of Sale. We would require a letter, on Provider letterhead, requesting the vehicle be scheduled for sale.

If you want to donate your vehicle but you don't have the title and don't want to go through the process of obtaining a duplicate title, we can do it for you. You will need to complete the forms below to make this possible.

The owner of the vehicle is deceased:

In the case of the death of an owner: If the vehicle is jointly titled and title states ownership to be Tenants By The Entirety (TEN ENT noted on title), Joint Tenants (JTEN noted on title), or Partners (PTNRS noted on title): we require a copy of the death certificate, a properly signed title (or POA) by the surviving owner, a lien release (if applicable), and if the joint ownership is between spouses or parties to a civil union, we would also require a signed Surviving Spouse/Party to a Civil Union statement.

In the case of one owner death: or the vehicle is jointly titled as Tenants in Common (TEN COM
noted on title), transfer of ownership can be accomplished one of 4 ways:

INTESTATE - NO PROBATE: You will need a copy of the Death Certificate, a lien
release (if applicable), a properly signed title by the Administrator of the estate, and
a letter from an officer of the court stating that the deceased died intestate, there is
no estate to be probated or the estate need not be probated, and names the person
who has the rights of ownership to the vehicle. If the officer of the court is from outof-
state, additional proof is required that the authority is a member of the Bar or a
Court Official.

INTESTATE – PROBATE: You will need a letter from the Probate Judge naming
the Administrator of the estate, a properly signed title by the Administrator of the
estate, and a lien release (if applicable).

WILL - NO PROBATE: You will need a copy of the Death Certificate, a lien release
(if applicable), a properly signed title by the Administrator of the estate, and a letter
from the officer of the court stating the deceased died leaving a will that was not
probated and naming the person with rights of ownership to the vehicle. If the officer
of the court is from out-of-state, additional proof is required that the authority is a
member of the Bar or a Court.

WILL – PROBATE: You will need a letter from Probate Court showing proof of
appointment of an Executor of the Will, a title properly signed by the Executor, and
a lien release (if applicable).

The vehicle was abandoned on my property:

We can only pick up an abandoned vehicle if we are able to obtain a signature from the last registered owner.
