I'm the registered owner but I can't find my title:
To replace the title of any given vehicle in the state of Washington the owner must fill out a Affidavit of loss form and the signatures must be notarized. If there is a lien holder on the title, the lien holder must apply for the duplicate title. When you submit the completed form by mail, usually the duplicate title will be mailed to you in 8-10 weeks. You can also complete it in person at any vehicle licensing office with cash or a check for the fees.
If you can't obtain a duplicate title but you need to sell your car you can file a Total Loss Claim Settlement Report TD-420-074.
If you don't want to go through the process of obtaining a duplicate title and simply want your vehicle off your hands as soon as possible you will need to fill out a notarized Affidavit of Loss/Release of Interest signed by all owners, an odometer disclosure statement (for vehicles less than 10 model years) and a lien release if applicable.
The owner of the vehicle is deceased:
In the case of a probated estate: a notarized copy of the death certificate is required, a notarized Affidavit
of Inheritance (with the completion of the County Clerk Certificate for Transfer, section 1), a properly signed title by the executor of the estate, and a notarized lien release (if applicable).
If a surviving spouse or heirs, transfer of ownership can be accomplished with a notarized copy of the death certificate, a notarized Affidavit of Inheritance (with the completion of the Inheritance section), a properly signed title by the surviving spouse or heirs, and a notarized lien release (if applicable).
The vehicle was abandoned on my property:
We can only pick up an abandoned vehicle if we are able to obtain a signature from the last registered owner.
