I'VE GOT THE TITLE IN FRONT OF ME, NOW WHERE DO I SIGN?

Release ownership by signing in the middle of the title, line 9, off to the right on the front of the title. If there is an active lien on the vehicle the lien holder must sign on the (State Of Minnesota Certificate Of Lien Release To A Motor Vehicle) form on line 2. The lien release must include the date signature of the authorized agent, and the agent's title.

You are not required to notify the department of Drivers and Vehicle Service, however if you don't know the buyer, the DVS strongly recommends notifying your local DVS office, in person with the buyer of the vehicle. This act will in affect legally free you from all liability. You can also sign a bill of sales however this is only required if the vehicle lacks proof of ownership. It is wise to keep a copy of the form regardless of the situation.

I'm the registered owner but I can't find my title:

If your title has been lost, stolen, mutilated, destroyed, countered, or has become illegible and you are the registered owner you can apply for Minnesota Duplicate Title (PS2067A-15).  This will allow you to obtain a new title.

In the rare case that you can not obtain a negotiable title you can sell the vehicle for parts only. You will need a notification on Provider letterhead requesting the vehicle be sold for parts. This should be a last resort method.

If you want us to handle the duplicate title process for a vehicle that you want to donate, we will be able to. You will just need to fill out the forms below and hang onto them until the tow agent comes to pick them up.

Two notarized Non-Secure Powers of Attorney signed by all owners listed on the title (one to apply for the duplicate title and one to sign the duplicate title when it is received from the DMV).

Driver’s license numbers and dates of birth for all owners listed on the title.

Lien Release (if applicable).

The owner of the vehicle is deceased:

In the case of a one owner death: You will need a certified copy of the death certificate, a MN DMV form PS2071 (Surviving Spouse Affidavit) or Affidavit of Heirs (if no surviving spouse), and a properly signed title by the Spouse/Heir.

In the case of a probated estate: You will need a certified copy of the death certificate, notarized probate
papers from the court, and a properly signed title by the executor of the estate.

The vehicle was abandoned on my property:

We can only pick up an abandoned vehicle if we are able to obtain a signature from the last registered owner.
