Wisconsin Title Processing Information

I'VE GOT THE TITLE IN FRONT OF ME, NOW WHERE DO I SIGN?

Release ownership by signing in the brand disclosure section, line 3, off to the right on the front of the title. If there is an active lien on the vehicle it's best to have a guarantee on the lien release prior to settling with the donor.

When releasing liability, the most important piece of paper work you can have is the title, but the bill of sale is a form that you may want to keep on record.

I'm the registered owner but I can't find my title:

If your title has been lost, stolen, mutilated, destroyed, countered, or has become illegible and you are the registered owner you can apply for the Wisconsin Application for Title (MV-1),. This will allow you to obtain a new title if completed correctly. If you have any questions you can contact The Wisconsin Duplicate Title Application Department at 608-266-1466. You may need the Statement of Vehicle Transfer depending on the situation.

If you are unable to obtain a negotiable title and you can not apply for a duplicate title you can go through the abandonment process. You will need written notification on Provider letterhead, instructing IAA to dispose of the vehicle. This option should be used as a last resort when all efforts have failed to produce a negotiable title.

If you want to donate your vehicle, but you don't have the title and do not wish to obtain it, we can handle it for you. You need to fill out the Wisconsin Application for Title (MV-1) which will need to be signed signed by all owners, a Statement of Vehicle Transfer (also signed by all owners) and a lien release if needed. Just fill out the forms and hold them until our tow agent comes to pick up your car.

The owner of the vehicle is deceased:

In the case of the death of an owner with a surviving spouse: The ownership of the vehicle can be transferred by the surviving spouse, you will need a certified copy of the death certificate, a completed and signed MV-2300 by the surviving spouse, a properly endorsed title by the surviving spouse, and a lien release, if applicable.

In the case of the death of an owner with no surviving spouse: The ownership of the vehicle can be transferred by the surviving heir or heirs in much the same way as a surviving spouse. We require a certified copy of the death certificate, a completed and signed MV-2300 by the surviving heir or heirs, a properly endorsed title by the heir or heirs, and a lien release, if applicable. The MV-2300 can only be used for surviving heirs if the estate is valued at less than $50,000.

The vehicle was abandoned on my property:

We can only pick up an abandoned vehicle if we can obtain a signature from the last registered owner.
